Okay, the secret's out.
Tobiuo has a BROTHER. Well, actually, a half-brother. Same father, different mothers. mm yes.

This blue guy is Tahn Sen. He is younger than Tobiuo.
He is a regal blue tang type merman.
Now, if you've seen Finding Nemo, you may recognize that Tahn is same type of fish that Dory is.

I've wanted to draw a merman whose upper body wasn't quite a human flesh color for some time now, and I finally did. .__.

Tahn is shy, and his personality is quite similar to Tobiuo's.
His father actually cursed at the way Tahn was born (being a full regal blue tang instead of half like he wanted), so he abused Tahn during his childhood, and also in his "teen" years.
So, Tobiuo took Tahn and ran away to end his pain.
How thoughtful.

okay, so why is Tobiuo a human/flying fish while Tahn is a full tang you ask?
Father was half tang, half human. Tobiuo's mother was half human, half flying fish. Tobiuo inherited the human gene from his father and the flying fish gene from his mother.
Tahn's mother was also half tang, half human also. Tahn inherited both tang genes. Yes?

mm.
I thought his fins turned out rather nicely, myself.

Why jellyfish in the background?
I find jellyfish quite interesting... and I didn't have a nice picture of some tangs or something.
